SMGT Logistics

A South African logistics firm that needed a credible, fast company website — built properly the first time and cared for after launch. One person handled everything: theme code, performance, SEO, deployment and ongoing care.

The context

In freight, trust is the product. A logistics company wins work by looking like the kind of operation you would hand your cargo to — organised, established and reachable. SMGT Logistics needed a company website that carried that weight, shaped around its actual services and fleet rather than a generic template's idea of "transport".

02

The problem

The default route for a site like this is a bought theme and a page builder — which ships megabytes of code the business will never use, loads slowly on the mobile connections most visitors actually have and fights you at every customisation. For a company whose customers search locally and decide quickly, slow and generic costs real enquiries.

03

The approach

Code the theme from scratch. No page-builder weight, no bought template — fast, hardcoded PHP templates shaped around the company's services and fleet, with WordPress underneath so the business still gets a normal admin. Then treat launch as the start of the job, not the end: a repeatable release process to the client's own hosting and care cycles that keep re-checking what matters.

04

What was built

  • Custom WordPress theme coded from scratch — no page-builder weight, no bought template
  • Fast, hardcoded PHP templates shaped around the company's services and fleet
  • Full image optimisation pipeline and server-level speed configuration
  • Technical SEO foundations: structure, metadata and performance
  • Deployment to the client's Afrihost hosting with a repeatable release process
05

The outcome

A company site that ships fast, ranks on its own merits and belongs to the client — hosted on their account, built on their WordPress, with no licence fees for a page builder they never wanted. It is the clearest expression of how I like to build: properly, once and then better every cycle.

The kaizen part: the site ships fast, ranks and keeps improving — performance and SEO are re-checked and refined in ongoing care cycles.
